Why Golden Gardens Is the Best Spot for Photos in Seattle
Can we talk about Golden Gardens for a second? Because if you're looking for one of the best photo spots in Seattle, this place needs to be on your radar.
Tucked up in Ballard right along Puget Sound, Golden Gardens has this rare thing most Seattle beaches don't - actual sand. A lot of our shoreline around here is rocky or pebbly, so finding a real sandy beach like this one always feels a little special. It's the kind of spot where you can kick your shoes off, dig your toes in, and just exist for a while.
And the views? Unreal. On a clear evening you're looking straight across the Sound at the Olympic Mountains while sailboats drift by and the whole sky turns warm and golden. It's genuinely one of the best sunset spots in the city, which - not gonna lie - is exactly why I love shooting family sessions there. That light rolling in off the water does most of the work for me. Everyone just looks a little glowy and a little more relaxed the second it hits.
There's also so much to actually do there beyond just standing around looking cute for photos (though we do plenty of that too). Beach fires in the summer are a whole Seattle tradition - locals grab a fire pit, watch the sunset, and just hang out until it gets dark. There's a boat launch if you're into kayaking or paddleboarding, volleyball courts if you want to get a game going, and if you head up the hill, there's a totally different, quieter side of the park with forest trails and a little pond that most people don't even know is there.
Kids especially love it here. Between the sand, the driftwood, and all that room to run, Golden Gardens gives them plenty of space to actually be kids during a session instead of standing stiff and smiling on command. And that's honestly my favorite part - letting a family explore the beach, chase each other around, maybe spot a seal bobbing in the water, and just capturing all of it as it happens naturally.
Whether you're a local who's driven past a hundred times and never stopped, or you're just now discovering it's one of the prettiest (and most photogenic) beaches in Seattle, Golden Gardens has a way of making every session feel like a little adventure instead of a formal photoshoot.
If you've been searching for a fun, beautiful spot for family photos in Seattle, this is always my top pick - and I'd love to show you why.
love your photographer,
Anna
