it's like rain on your photo day // black and white

A dad holds his baby in a yellow raincoat under a cherry blossom for spring mini sessions in Seattle.

What happens if it rains?

I get this question every year. And I totally get it! You’re planning ahead for your photos and you don’t imagine them to be drenched in rainwater.

While I can’t promise sunshine for all of your photo sessions,

I can assure you of this. I make some pretty awesome photos in the rain.

Below are a few reasons rainy day pictures aren’t so bad.

It’s part of the story.

You live in the beautiful PNW. We have the rain to thank for our luscious greens and our gorgeous blue skies. Rain is a part of our lives, almost daily, and it can be part of our photos too.

When I photograph your family, I look for the story. I watch your family being together and I document the love and togetherness expressed in only the ways you can. Believe it or not, rain can actually help me do this. From the way you snuggle close to keep your loved ones warm to your sweet baby puddle stomping in the rain. These are all memories in the making and create the space for meaningful family photos that are unique and unexpected, meant to be cherished for a lifetime.

  1. Warm clothes are super cute

I know it's tempting to stick to those cute outfits you planned, but rain boots, umbrellas, and beanies photograph really well and have a cute, cozy vibe that my clients LOVE when they get the photos. Plus, when kids are warm and happy, photos tend to be more successful.

  2. You get to cozy up with your favorites

Lean into it! Rainy day pics can be really fun and turn out so beautiful. Let's have some fun puddle stomping and snuggling up close to keep warm. Even cute blankets can photograph beautifully, all snuggled together with your sweet fam.

  3. We prioritize portraits

As soon as you arrive, we will take your family portrait. Wear your coats, hoods, umbrellas, etc. to stay dry until we get to the spot for pics. After that, we snap a bunch of pictures while you are still dry. Followed by some fun play for those candid shots!

  4. This season of life is worth celebrating, even in the rain!
