repetition explained

When I was a kid in school a common punishment was for us to write sentences. Do you ever have to do that? Aside from your hand cramping and getting suuuuper bored, can you think of another reason why your teacher or parent asks you to write the same sentence over and over and over?

REPETITION!!

Usually that sentence has something to do with that thing you did that you shouldn’t have done. Repeating it over and over is a method to help you think about what you did, why you shouldn’t do it, and what you should do next time.

A form of meditation

In many religions, people use repetition as a method for meditation. To quiet the brain from the distractions of the world. Giving it a break, memorizing, reflecting. It’s an effective tool to bring stillness to the mind and open up your brain to new ideas and even bring to light your own thoughts!

Traditions are repetitions.

They are things we do over and over, like a habit.

Every year.

Think about the traditions you have during the holidays. What are the special things you do with your family and repeat them each year?

Think about how these activities are REPEATED, year after year. Do you think that repetition emphasizes their importance?

Do your family traditions stand out as something in your mind as a significant part of your life?
