mini session stories // sisters at the beach in black and white

I used to think I had to follow a bunch of rules to photograph families in a true, authentic way.

Don’t take pictures of people smiling at the camera.

Don’t ever pose your clients.

Take pictures of literally everything that happens. Don’t miss a single thing.

Oh my, how I’ve grown.

While photojournalistic ideologies and theories REALLY helped me become a better photographer, it is often beneficial to think outside the box. To explore your art. To make mistakes. And break the rules.

In my opinion, this is the best way to grow.

I have found that one of the best ways to document real-life family moments is to create visual stories. Not just document literally what’s happening in front of me, but to hone in on a theme, or a story.

This, to me, is what makes my photography documentary style. THE STORY.

Whether the story is about two sisters at the beach, holding hands while they explore, or your family making bouquets of lavender at the farm, it is YOUR FAMILY living your life together. These are real moments that you share, making more candid, lifestyle photos for your family to cherish forever.

Let’s hang out at the beach for some family portraits and hangtime with your favorite people on the planet.

Love your photographer,

Anna
