mini session stories // a boy picks lavender in black and white

A boy picks lavender.

July 2021

Lately, I have been really falling in love with finding themes in my photos.

When I photograph your family, I watch for little microstories. Things that are important to you or cute little habits your kids have. It may be the way your child is attached to a favorite stuffy or the fact that your daughter loves to wear a princess dress while she looks for worms in the garden.

One of the stories I found while photographing this family picking lavender was this boy’s creative way of picking and playing with lavender. While he was cutting lavender stems to make a bouquet, he started putting lavender behind his ears and in his denim shirt. I couldn’t miss this moment. So I started snapping away.

I love that this story represents him and gives us a little glimpse into his personality. A boy who loves flowers and isn’t shy about letting everyone know it. A kid who is so gentle with each lavender stalk that zero flowers fall off the stem while he carefully places them between the buttons of his shirt. He’s a kid who loves to experiment outside the box, follow his playful instincts, and soak in his adventures moment by moment.

Do I get all of this from a single photo? Heck yes, I do!

All of these small themes or microstories are like pages that add up to the chapter of your day, chapters that make up the story of your life.

I would love to meet your family at the lavender farm. And find those little stories that fill the pages of the book that uniquely represents your life, your people.

LOVE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER,

Anna
