the three don'ts of lifestyle mini sessions // black and white

The three don’ts of lifestyle mini sessions.

Generally, I try to stay positive and not share WHAT NOT to do. But I do find that giving some direction helps my clients know what to expect when entering their mini session. When my families have their heads wrapped around what to expect, I find they are more relaxed and themselves during photos. The more communication the better, so here we go!

  1. DON’T DO matching outfits - this is my go to number one. I will still make the best photos I can with a matching fam, but I’ve said it before and I will say it again — it’s pretty much the cheesiest and dated thing, my friends. With that being said, if you are super tempted to do a matchy matchy look, please reach out and we can brainstorm this idea together!

  2. DON’T DO constant smiling at the camera during candid photo time. We’ve already done these! Let’s not be boring and predictable. Your portraits are taken care of at the beginning of your session. These are beautiful, smiling family portraits, as you can see above! But we also need those fun, family interactions that only candid pictures can provide. For this round of photos instead of smiling at me, smile at each other.

  3. DON’T stress and overthink - You don’t go into each and every family hang stressing about what you wear, how perfect your kids behave or figuring out which side of your face photographs best, do you? GREAT! Then don’t do it for your pics! It’s that simple. This should be like a regular day with your family — these are every day memories for you to cherish, not curated surface level perfection while you and your children miserable and crying on the inside.

I would love for you to trust me to make your family photos the most fun thing ever! Click that button below if you want to learn more.

love your photographer,
